Kevon Looney Facts

  1. Kevon, in his senior high school year, was named the top high school basketball player in his state. That year (2014), his list of honors included being named McDonald’s All-American, First-Team Parade All-American, and Wisconsin Mr. Basketball. That year, he had helped his school go undefeated in conference play to win its first league title in 4 years.
  2. Around this time, owing to his ball-handling capabilities, shot-creating skills, and shooting prowess, fans had started calling him ‘The Next KD’, in reference to future Golden State Warriors teammate Kevin Durant.
  3. In his freshman year, playing college basketball with the UCLA Bruins, he had earned 2nd-Team All-Conference honors in the Pac-12 in 2015. He was also included in the year’s Pac-12 All-Freshman team. The Pac-12 Conference is a collegiate athletic conference that operates in the western United States.
  4. In what was his only season of college basketball, he led all freshmen in the country in double-doubles (a single-game performance in which a player accumulates 10 or more in 2 of the following 5 statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots), recording double figures in both points and rebounds in 15 games.
  5. That season, he had also become the first freshman in UCLA history to have recorded at least 4 double-doubles in his first 5 games. He had extended that streak to 7 double-doubles in his first 10 games for the UCLA Bruins.
  6. His rookie NBA season with the Golden State Warriors was severely limited after he underwent surgery on both his hips. The following season, a strained left hip had ruled him out of action for most of the playoff stage matches during his team’s championship run.
  7. His alma mater, Alexander Hamilton High School, had retired his number 5 jersey in 2018.
